This morning, Alex's pinewood derby car competed in the district race. Both he and his dad, along with his sister and me, are very proud that his car won 2nd place in his division -- Wolf.
This evening, Laura along with 14 other teenager boys and girls from Columbine High School are part of a Relay for Life team. Their team name is Columbine Believers, 15 team members. If you want to donate to their team, follow this link. They will all take turns walking around the football field at Littleton High School. This is the description of the event:
"At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length. Relayers do not have to walk all night, but each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event."
My hats off to everyone participating at this event tonight especially since we are experiencing unseasonably cold weather. When I was there this evening for the opening ceremony and a few laps, it was 46 with rain!
We are expecting rain throughout the night so I am thankful they have a nice campsite setup.
Since I don't post pictures of my kids on my blog, I am not including the group photo of tonight's relay team, but here is a view of the back of the Columbine Believers.
Later tonight, a Luminaria will be lit in honor of Laura's grandpa Wagner who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Tonight, Laura walks for her grandpa and me. I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer almost 2 years ago. Thankfully, my cancer was caught on time. Surgery and radiation eradicated most of it. I continue to live with it but honestly, you would never know I still have tiny traces of it. I am lucky that my cancer is very treatable and manageable. Unfortunately, Cancer is something that touches many of our lives (in one way or another) but it's wonderful to see so many teenagers on a field willing to spend an entire cold & rainy night to fulfill a commitment they made to participate in the Relay for Life event.

Isa, I just wanted to tell you that the heart sachets that I gave to my Mom and MIL were a hit! They both loved them and said how beautiful they are. :) I found some cute quotes about a mother's heart and wrote those on a tag and tied them onto the cute paper sacks, so the wrapping was already done for me!
