A Paris Street Market September 2016

THANK YOU! To everyone who came to my booth last Saturday at A Paris Street Market in Aspen Grove.

A special thanks to my husband who woke up at dawn to help me set up and who came late morning with my daughter Laura ( we enjoyed lunch together). Laura returned to CSU early afternoon so it was really sweet my husband returned to help me pack up and load the u-haul van.

This year's market season had a slow start with weather issues. However, this last market had stellar sales. Record sales for a non- holiday market. Thank you to all my customers, old and new:)

Halloween! Garlands & Coasters using Sew Scary Fabric Line by J. Wecker Frisch & Dyed Bottle Brush Trees

Anytime J. Wecker Frisch has a new fabric line, I purchase it.  I love it all, but I especially love her new Sew Scary fabric line created for Quilting Treasures Fabrics.  Checkout her blog, Joy Studio.

I will have lots of Halloween items at A Paris Street Market this Saturday, September 5th.  Among them will be these Garlands/Buntings created using the Sew Scary fabric line (black fabric on the back).  I have fabric to create more, but those will be available at October's A Paris Street Market.  Here is what will be available this month, September 5th.

 

Here is a sampling of the 4 inch square coasters I created using Sew Scary fabric line. Love the vintage graphics!  They will come in sets of 4 coasters.  The fabric used for these coasters will be garlands for the October A Paris Street Market.  At least that my plan!

 

During the  Christmas Holiday shows, one of my best sellers are my bleached and hand-dyed bottle brush trees.  Dyed Halloween bottle brush trees  have been on my to do list since last year but ran out of time.  This year, I made time!  I hand- dyed a huge assortment of Halloween and Fall Bottle Brush Trees.  Here is a sampling:

Luggage Tags using J. Wecker Frisch's Draw Near Fabric

Before I started working on my little house coin purses/ear bud case, I had started working on these luggage tags.  This project, like most of my work, evolved in to luggage tags.

I love the latest fabric by J. Wecker Frish, Draw Near. You can visit her blog, Joy Studio  here.

I purchased yardage of every fabric in the Draw Near line.  That is how much I love it!  A few days after our Texas trip, I wanted to start creating (it had been too long and creating is just part of my DNA).  This is what I came up with.

One of my favorite estate sale finds is vintage trim.  To give these "girls" a bit of color, I added vintage trim.  I know I mentioned a few months ago how much I love my new sewing machine.  It does wonderful embroidery stitching.  Adding the decorative stitching made it feel like I was adding some mix media element to the luggage tags, like a form of stamping. 

Why add color?

One of my all time fabrics (also from the Draw Near fabric line), is the fabric I used on the back of these luggage tags.  There is a layer of thick interfacing between the top and bottom layer of fabric for added support.

To finish this project, I added a grommet on the top along with a plastic luggage tie and stitched in place an  ID plastic card holder to the back.  A business card can be used as your ID information on the luggage tag. 

I will create some basic ID cards that can be filled out with name, address & phone number (if the person does not have a business card to use).

These new luggage tags will be available at A Paris Street Market in Aspen Grove September 6th.

She Who Sews Challenge by Isa Creations

It has been several weeks since my last post.  Several reasons for my absence. Tomorrow I will post about a project I have been working on for two solid weekends involving my son's 4th grade class.

Add to that, I have been working at school (2 days) or volunteering at school (2 days) 4 of the 5 days this past week.  All of this has been done while having a cold with a hacking cough.  I am still coughing as I write this post, I can't tell you how tired I am of this cough!

Anyway, I want to share my two completed projects for

She Who Sews Challenge

Challenge involved using the Handmaids fabric created by J. Wecker Frisch.  These are the challenge rules as posted by the Joy Studio Blog:

Challenge Rules:
1. Sign up by April 25, 2014 with an email to tidings3@aol.com and comment to this post – Accepting the first 30
2. Make any item (s) of your choice using one (total) or more yards of the “She Who Sews” fabrics (collection from Quilting Treasures – available in quilt shops & on line)
3. Use two “She Who Sews” fat quarters – We provide
4. Also (must) use at least 2 more cuts (skus), your choice, of the “She Who Sews” fabrics, in any increments, totaling an additional 1/2 yard or more – You purchase

I created two styles of bags with the two fat quarters I received along with the She Who Sews fabric I had previously purchased.

The first one is a clutch bag, fully lined and with a layer of fusible fleece for added support.  I love to use the free-motion sewing attachment on my sewing machine.  I stitched the outline of the the girl, her hair and added some free-style stitching doodling throughout the bag.  On the back I free style stitched "Create with Love." I just added a bit of vintage red rick rack trim to the top.

The second bag is a lined zippered bag.  The bag itself is square but the quilting itself is not.  The paint palette  inspired me to have the square a bit off centered.  I believe in art it's okay to color outside the lines and think outside the box.   The yellow and red rick rack trim are not in a straight line.  All the rick rack trim is vintage.  I added some fun charms to the zipper pull for fun.  For the lining in this bag  I used both fat quarters sent to me.

Working with the Handmaids fabric line, She Who Sews has been fun.  I have more lined zippered bags just waiting to be sewed.  Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will get those done. 

 J. Wecker Frisch is coming out with new fabric lines, (Angelband and DrawNear) I look forward to purchasing both fabric lines as soon as they become available.
