Re-purposed -- Chalkboards

One of my favorite items on Pinterest are Chalkboards.  Whether it's decorative chalkboard lettering or re-purposing items into chalkboards.  Now, when I am at an estate sale, I look for items I can re-purpose into a functional chalkboard.

I just finished a few new Chalkboard projects.

Vintage suitcase with pristine interior.  As I was drawing this house with chalk, my daughter Laura said it was making her sad.  Why?

It's a drawing of our old house in Houston...17330 was our house number.  After 7 years, Laura still misses her old home.

Re-purposed leather briefcase.  You don't see people carry these anymore.  Another drawing of a House with chalk.

This is a huge clipboard.  I painted it with many layers of chalkboard paint then "seasoned" the chalkboard.  I added pegboard circles/flower along with vintage button pins.

Old wooden clothespins (durable not flimsy like some of the newer ones) PAINTED  with chalkboard paint.

I stamped Halloween images and added magnets to  some of the chalkboard clothespins.

Paper Mache house boxes painted with chalkboard paint.  Stamped with chalk paint and sealed.

All of these items will be available at the Checkered Corner this weekend.  The Checkered Corner will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday - September 20 -22, 2013.  Follow this link for more details on times and address.

Preview of New Things... Most are Re-purposed

I have been busy playing  working creating new re-purposed items.

Here is a preview of what I will have at A Paris Street Market this Saturday  and Spring Horseshoe Market the following Saturday (May 11).

Chalkboards = all from re-purposed materials.  A fresh coat of paint and black chalkboard paint is all you need.

Vintage Blue Ball Jars with paper flowers for Spring (inside a re-purposed suitcase)

Vintage Linens + Wood Embroidery Hoops (all estate sale finds) =

What used to be a vintage brown Samsonite Cosmetic carrying case has now been given a face lift...

An old wooden box is now a chalkboard surface ...I altered the sides of the box with texture paste, vintage doilies (used as a stencil) to create a mix media look.  Doilies have been stamped with a Chalk Marker.

Vintage Inspired fabric + Vintage Buttons =

An old metal box re-purposed....

Chalkboard Fabric + Embroidery Hoops (painted) = Chalkboards with stamped images created with a Chalk Marker

Perhaps my favorite re-purposed item...a old green suitcase.  I painted it black, then added a texture design to the top of the suitcase.

Sew Retro Fabric + Scrabble Tiles + Embroidery Hoop (painted red) =

Love the Chalk Markers and the Stamp images.  Most of the stamps I used are from Stampin-Up.

Fun fabric + Embroidery Hoop (Painted Black) =

Vintage Linens, some in their original state and others have been hand-dyed TEAL AND PURPLE!

Crossword Puzzle Fabric + Embroidery Hoop (painted yellow) =

This is just a sampling.  I truly have many more painted embroidery hoops with vintage embroidery, vintage inspired fabric along with a wide assortment of Chalkboard surfaces.

Now I have to get busy adding sales tags to all of these items...that part is definitely not fun!
