Re-Purposed Organizers for A Paris Street Market

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Unlike this week, last week I had a productive week in regards to creating new re-purposed items for A Paris Street Market this Saturday, June 1st in Aspen Grove in Littleton, CO.

I have collected various bakeware, tins and rolling pins.  During our visit to Texas during our Spring Break, I found many vintage thread spindles.  They worked great to create these re-purposed organizers.

Cutting the rolling pins, and even some of the thread spindles was a little scary at first.  I borrowed my husband electric saw (not sure the correct technical name).  After a while, the saw did not scare me and I was cutting wood without fear.

Creating these organizers took some time to figure out but once I got it worked out, I enjoyed the process of creating many one of kind re-purposed organizers.

I decided to include various vintage sewing notions in the re-purposed sewing organizers.  The top has a pin cushion.

These re-purposed organizers can be for anything, including baked items like cupcakes.

A day at the Auction...

My idea of treasure hunting is estate sale shopping.  I like that if I can get my hand on the item and the price is right, I can purchase it at that moment. My husband David prefers the auctions for his treasure hunting.  Instead of us having a "date night" at the movies, we will spend a Sunday morning at the auction while Laura takes care of her brother at home.  David is the one bidding at the auction.  Even if there is a box of vintage linens I have an interest in, he is the one doing the bidding.  I have a hard time following the bidding process and occasionally I am not sure if he is the winning bidder or not.  Like I said, the auctions is his comfort zone...mine is estate sales.

About a week and half ago, May 19th I went to the auction by myself.  David and I checked out the auction preview on Saturday and while he checked on a piece of furniture, I found a box full of vintage jell-O molds!  My supply of vintage jello-O molds was almost gone!  I need them for my vintage linen pin cushions and I had not found many in the last few months at estate sales.

The furniture David had interest in was not what he expected so he decided he did not need to go back to the auction on Sunday.  David also had lots of yard work to catch up on and spending the day at the auction for a box of Jell-O molds was just not efficient use of his time.

I knew I had to try to get that box of Jell-O molds so with some coaching from my husband, I thought..."I can do this."

and

I did it!

I was a bit nervous while I bid on various item but in the end I have to say, I was proud of myself.  I came home with that box of Jello-O mold plus a box full of vintage lace/linens and a box full of vintage sewing treasures....

140 molds $10

A box of Vintage lace and linens $20

Box full of Vintage Buttons and other sewing notions, including vintage sewing books $10

Box of Jell-O mold also had a scale and unused vintage cookie press

Rain at Spring Horseshoe Market

The end of the school year is always a challenge.  So many events at school like field day, field trip to downtown Denver, and the traditional 3rd Grade Sock hop involving my son Alex. Outside of school, my son Alex is now playing Soccer and has had various Cub Scout events.  My daughter Laura was involved in Relay for Life, Tennis Team Banquet and lots of extra hours of studying for her class finals.

Laura's need to study for her AP Biology exam prevented her from helping me at Horseshoe Market a few weeks ago.  Thankfully, my booth at Horseshoe Market was next to my friend Amy from the Pink Attic Cat .  On the other side was Charlotte from Charlotte's Rustic Rose.  They were both a great help to me. Tracy helped Amy and whenever I needed a quick break Tracy helped me with my booth.  I met wonderfully creative people at the show.  It was a successful show and when a light drizzle rain came and went in the afternoon, I thought the weather would no longer be a problem.  The show ended at 4:00 p.m. and the work of packing up started.

Thankfully, I always start by packing up my inventory into plastic containers with lids.  The sky became very dark  yet, somehow I did not think it would rain (denial perhaps?).  I continued packing somehow thinking I would get it all in the truck before any rain would come or if it did, it would just be a few sprinkles.  Although I only had my inventory packed and all the tables, racks & tent were still not packed, I decided to get the truck and park it next to the booth.  Many vendors were already gone by then.  As soon as I was driving the truck to my booth space, it hit.  A storm with a downpour of rain and wind.  Thankfully, the tent still had all the weights so it stayed in place but everything was soaked!

Amy and her family were just about done packing her truck and I had not even started.  Amy was so sweet, she offered me help but I told her not to worry.  It was just water.  I knew I was a long way from going home so it was not necessary to further delay anyone else.  Charlotte also offered me help but again, I did not want to delay her either.

I just accepted it was water and reminded myself that my inventory was protected and dry inside the plastic containers.  Eventually the rain ceased and the sun even came out.  By the time the sun came back, I was almost done packing wet plastic containers, tables, soaked tablecloths and very wet canopy/tent into the truck.   Although I was exhausted, I decided to take most of my inventory containers back to the Checkered Corner so I would have more room at home to spread out the tables, racks, and even canopy to dry.

Originally, I was going to met some friends for a birthday dinner (Alex's school friends mom's) after the show but I called to explain I (along with everything in my truck) was soaking wet and sadly, would miss the dinner.

When I got home, I was truly exhausted but thankfully my family got busy and helped me unload what was left in the truck.  David opened up everything to dry and even started washing the tablecloths.  I went to bed before 9:00 p.m.  That never happens! I was in bed even before my 9 year old son!

Despite everything, it really was a good day.  I got to spend it with friends, met great people, received offers for help and my family helped me at the end of a very long day.  I really missed having my daughter Laura at the show but her studies come first.

Lined Zippered Bags - iPad/Kindle Fire/Nook -- A small sample now listed on Etsy

Listing my lined zippered bags has been on my "to do" list for a very long time...a few months.  I should probably be sleeping but I am up so I decided to be productive...list some new items to my Etsy Shop Isa Creations Vintage.

I have 2 more I want to list but I need to take pictures  but I am now too tired and really should try to get at least a few hours of sleep.

UPDATE:

I followed through!  I finished the edits, took pictures for 2 more Lined Zippered Bags and just finished posting them on my Etsy shop, Isa Creations Vintage.

Mix Media Birdhouses - at Checkered Corner this Weekend!

I had planned to write a new blog post days ago to share my adventures at Horseshoe Market (short but very strong thunderstorm hit shortly after the show ended but before I packed everything up! -- I will share next week).

Instead,  I decided to post about why I never got around to writing about Horseshoe Market.  I have been having too much fun creating one of a kind  new Mix Media Birdhouses.

Mix Media combines my love of painting, scrapbook papers and playing with textures.  These unfinished wood/tin  birdhouses have been in a plastic bin for years...I am not kidding.  These are back from the days of decorative painting.

This month, the Checkered Corner's theme is Birds, Birdhouses and Blues.  This theme was a great motivator for me to dig out that bin and create something unique with these birdhouses.

Checkered Corner is open this Friday, May 17, 18, 19th.
5650 South Curtice Street, Historic Downtown Littleton
Friday & Saturday 10 -6
Sunday noon - 4

Laura Inducted into National Honor Society

Earlier tonight, my daugther Laura was inducted into the National Honor Society.  We are very proud of Laura.  She has earned this recognition.

This past year, Laura has worked very hard.  As a Sophmore at Columbine High School, she has a full course load.  Two AP class, two honor classes plus she plays the violin in the school Orchestra.  This past Spring, she also played Tennis for Columbine High School.  She volunteers at church most Wednesday nights.  All of this has led to Laura sleeping very little...she and I sleep about the same amount of time (which is not good at all).

This past year, especially with the AP classes, I have seen Laura mature academically in a way that makes me very proud of her.  She is responsible and works very hard to earn good grades.

At tonight's induction ceremony, Columbine's HS Principal, Mr. D (Frank DeAngelis)  congratulated all the new inductees.  He said 84% of Columbine HS graduates go on to College, which speaks very high of the school and in my opinion, his leadership.

A Paris Street Market Photos

Thanks to everyone who came to A Paris Street Market this past Saturday, May 4th.

My daugther Laura was a great helper.  Spending the day with her on these Market days gives Laura and I great quality time together.  I honestly could not do A Paris Street Market without her.  Even with a 5 a.m. checkin, we both work the entire time to be ready by 8 a.m. (when the show officially opens).

The weather was a bit chilly at times, especially at 5 a.m.; but I could not asked for a better day.  It was a sunny wonderful day.  My sales were the best I have had ...at any show (including the 2 day shows).   Loved meeting so many wonderful customers.

My friend Lisa and her daugher Sophie came by to visit with Laura and me (love and appreciate their constant support).   Laura and I look forward to this Friday's plans with Lisa and Sophie.  We have dinner and movie plans....The Great Gatsby Movie.  Both Laura and Sophie recently read the Great Gatsby book and can't wait to see the new movie.

Here are pictures of my space at A Paris Street Market.

This week will be busy with various family commitments but  I will make an effort to create more vintage linen birds, vintage linen pin cushions and paper dresses...all those items sold very well and my inventory is now quite low.

Next Saturday, I will be at the Spring Horseshoe Market.
