Fabric with the girls and mix media inspired colorful roof material is from Christy Tomlinson's fabric line.  Christy Tomlinson is one of my favorite mix media artists.
Pillow case crochet edge has now been re-purposed to created a layered roof on this sweet home coin purse.

Crochet trim with beads crocheted...love this trim.  Wish I had more...
Love the Christy Tomlinson's fabric.  I am so glad I purchased yards of it about a year ago.

Beaded trim found an estate sale in my own neighborhood this past Spring.  This was the only estate sale where I shopped at on the  1st, 2nd and last day, each time finding wonderful vintage treasures.

Houses....Coin Purse and/or Ear Bud Case

Usually after a long trip, especially our 3+ week trip to Texas, I come home feeling exhausted.  It takes me days to feel like myself again.  Over the years, I realize it's an emotional exhaustion rather than physical.  I think it's because although I love living in Colorado and have many great friends in Colorado, I realize a part of me and my heart remains in Texas with family and friends.

Therefore, it is not a big surprise that my creativity takes time to come back to me.  This year, my creativity initially returned slowly but thanks to Pinterest returned in  a big surge of creativity.   An idea started to take root in my head.  Then it grew and took a life of it's own.  There is no other way to explain it or describe it.

Home

Perhaps it was spending time with everyone in Texas that inspired my newest creation.  Realizing that no matter what, Texas will always be home.  Although I don't expect I will return to live in Texas, people close and dear in my heart live in Texas.    In my heart, I have homes in two different states.

Colorado and Texas

Maybe that is why I am so drawn to creating with the theme of houses.  I have created paper houses (Christmas), mix media with houses on canvas and paper mache (Halloween/Christmas), felted wool house ornaments (Christmas) and  mix media inspired Nook/iPad lined zippered bags.

This time, I have created fabric houses that are small.  They are coin purses where a credit card will fit inside along with cash and coins.  Or, you can use them to put your iPod ear buds inside.

My materials are a combination of vintage and new.  Most, if not all, are unique and one of a kind.
I have created many combinations of colors and even a few Halloween theme homes.

I have many completed but many, many more still to complete.  This surge of creativity is something I enjoy.  Although my studio is currently messy and unorganized, it's also when my productivity is high.   It is for this reason I had not blogged since our return from our trip to Texas (July 15th).

I decided it was time to take a break from sewing and blog about our trip and my newest creation.  I will return to A Paris Street Market on September 6th with many new items.  Including another item I have been working on almost at the same time as the houses, but more on that later, maybe next week.

Vintage purple chenille bedspread, crochet lace and embroidered flowers all re-purposed to create a one of a kind house coin purse.
Each home had a rhinestone button as a door knob.  Most have a heart stitched as a door plate.
The zipper is on the back.  These little homes are fully lined with coordinating cotton fabric.  The ring and clasp will be made available to everyone in case they want to attach it to a key chain or a pair of jeans.  You can keep your iPod ear buds safely inside this house.
A black and white chenille makes a perfect brick like background.
You can slip a credit card inside, along with some cash and coins.
These home coin purses were created using a tattered vintage quilt along with many vintage and new trims.

The window in this home is from a vintage hankie with many holes.  I was able to salve the delicate embroidery and use it as a window on this house.

More homes in tomorrow's blog posting.

She Who Sews Challenge by Isa Creations

It has been several weeks since my last post.  Several reasons for my absence. Tomorrow I will post about a project I have been working on for two solid weekends involving my son's 4th grade class.

Add to that, I have been working at school (2 days) or volunteering at school (2 days) 4 of the 5 days this past week.  All of this has been done while having a cold with a hacking cough.  I am still coughing as I write this post, I can't tell you how tired I am of this cough!

Anyway, I want to share my two completed projects for

Challenge involved using the Handmaids fabric created by J. Wecker Frisch.  These are the challenge rules as posted by the Joy Studio Blog:
Challenge Rules:
1. Sign up by April 25, 2014 with an email to tidings3@aol.com and comment to this post – Accepting the first 30
2. Make any item (s) of your choice using one (total) or more yards of the “She Who Sews” fabrics (collection from Quilting Treasures – available in quilt shops & on line)
3. Use two “She Who Sews” fat quarters – We provide
4. Also (must) use at least 2 more cuts (skus), your choice, of the “She Who Sews” fabrics, in any increments, totaling an additional 1/2 yard or more – You purchase
5. To be eligible/entered for the participant giveaway/drawing, you must email photo(s) of finished project(s) to tidings3@aol.com by May 26, 2014

I created two styles of bags with the two fat quarters I received along with the She Who Sews fabric I had previously purchased.

The first one is a clutch bag, fully lined and with a layer of fusible fleece for added support.  I love to use the free-motion sewing attachment on my sewing machine.  I stitched the outline of the the girl, her hair and added some free-style stitching doodling throughout the bag.  On the back I free style stitched "Create with Love." I just added a bit of vintage red rick rack trim to the top.

 Free-style stitching on hair:

The second bag is a lined zippered bag.  The bag itself is square but the quilting itself is not.  The paint palette  inspired me to have the square a bit off centered.  I believe in art it's okay to color outside the lines and think outside the box.   The yellow and red rick rack trim are not in a straight line.  All the rick rack trim is vintage.  I added some fun charms to the zipper pull for fun.  For the lining in this bag  I used both fat quarters sent to me.

Working with the Handmaids fabric line, She Who Sews has been fun.  I have more lined zippered bags just waiting to be sewed.  Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will get those done.

 J. Wecker Frisch is coming out with new fabric lines, (Angelband and DrawNear) I look forward to purchasing both fabric lines as soon as they become available.
